Velkommen
Celebrating 56 years of
Westby Norwegian Heritage!
The Westby Syttende Mai Board and the residents of Westby want to say "Welcome!" to our 2025 Syttende Mai celebration that commemorates Norway's Constitution Day. Strong ties to Norway still exists since the first official Norwegian settler laid his eyes on the prairie once called Coon. Family and tradition hold special meaning in our primarily Norwegian community.

Our Heritage
The settlers brought with them their Lutheran religion, arts, crafts, foods and strong work ethic. Since the first Celebration, children and adults have enjoyed music, food and history of Syttende Mai. As the first major festival of the year in Southwest Wisconsin, Westby's Syttende Mai offers many Norwegian foods such as rommegrot (a cream pudding), lefsepolsa, sandbakkels, strul and lefse, as well as Norwegian rosemaling, woodcarving, Hardanger fiddlemaking, needlework and weaving.
